About Narmada Control Authority (NCA)
The Narmada Control Authority (NCA) was established under the final orders of the Narmada Water Disputes Tribunal (NWDT) to oversee the implementation of its decisions. The authority has been functioning since December 20, 1980 and comprises representatives from the four beneficiary states—Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan—along with the Government of India. The authority is responsible for managing the Narmada Basin’s water resources and ensuring equitable distribution among the participating states.
NCA operates under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, and its headquarters is located in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The authority is headed by the Secretary (Water Resources), Government of India, who acts as the ex-officio Chairman, while the Executive Member handles routine administration. NCA has six subgroups dedicated to various aspects of water resource management and river basin development.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must fulfill the required qualifications and possess the necessary experience to be eligible for this position:
Educational Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university or institute.
- A Master’s Degree in Water Resources Engineering, Hydrology, or a related field will be an added advantage.
Experience Requirements:
- At least 15 years of experience in civil engineering projects related to water resources, dam construction, irrigation, or hydroelectric projects.
- Experience in policy formulation, water resource management, and inter-state water disputes resolution is desirable.
- Applicants currently holding an analogous post in central/state government departments, PSUs, or autonomous bodies will be preferred.
Age Limit:
- The upper age limit for applicants is 58 years as of the application deadline.
- Age relaxation will be provided as per the applicable government regulations.
Job Responsibilities
The Member (Civil) will be responsible for:
- Overseeing Water Resource Projects – Managing and supervising large-scale civil engineering projects, including dams, canals, and irrigation systems.
- Implementation of NWDT Decisions – Ensuring compliance with the Narmada Water Disputes Tribunal (NWDT) awards and coordinating between the four state governments and the central government.
- Hydrological and Engineering Studies – Conducting technical evaluations, impact assessments, and feasibility studies for Narmada Basin projects.
- Interstate Coordination – Facilitating discussions between Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan to ensure equitable distribution of water resources.
- Policy Development – Assisting in the formulation and implementation of water management policies, operational guidelines, and regulatory frameworks.
- Supervision of Infrastructure Development – Monitoring construction, operation, and maintenance of hydraulic structures, including reservoirs, barrages, and hydroelectric power plants.
