CERC Recruitment 2025: Engineering, Legal, Finance, and Regulatory Affairs Posts on Deputation/Contract Basis
The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), a statutory body under an Act of Parliament, has announced recruitment for various high-level positions across engineering, legal, finance, and research domains. These vacancies are to be filled on deputation or short-term contract basis, and applications are invited from officers working in Central/State Governments, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), Autonomous Bodies, Regulatory Commissions, and other eligible organizations.

Salary & Allowances
- Selected candidates will be paid as per the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix corresponding to their respective levels.
- In addition to basic pay, candidates will receive applicable Dearness Allowance, HRA, and Transport Allowance.
- Leased housing may be permitted in accordance with the CERC Leased Accommodation Regulations, 2007.
- Medical facilities, deputation duty allowance, leave salary, pension/NPS contributions, and gratuity will be applicable depending on whether the deputation is under foreign service terms or short-term contract.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility is based on qualifications, experience, and the level of the current post held in the parent cadre. Below is a brief overview:
1. Joint Chief (Engineering)
- Qualification: Degree in Engineering (Diploma accepted for CPE Group A service members)
- Experience: 3 years in Level 12 OR 8 years in Level 11
- Desirable: Experience in power transmission, generation planning, and techno-economic evaluation.
2. Deputy Chief (Engineering)
- Qualification: Degree/Diploma in Engineering
- Work Experience: 3 years at Pay Level 11 or 7 years at Pay Level 10.
- Desirable: Practical experience in generation/transmission systems.
3. Deputy Chief (Legal)
- Qualification: Degree in Law (preferably with specialization or Master’s Degree)
- Work Experience: 3 years at Pay Level 11 or 7 years at Pay Level 10.
- Desirable: Experience in judicial/quasi-judicial matters, petitions, legal drafting.
4. Deputy Chief (Finance)
- Educational Qualification: MBA in Finance, or Chartered Accountant, or Cost Accountant—preferably with an engineering background.
- Relevant Experience: Minimum 3 years in Pay Level 11 or 7 years in Pay Level 10.
- Desirable: Experience in tariff structure, financial analysis, or cost management.
5. Assistant Chief (Engineering)
- Qualification: Degree/Diploma in Engineering
- Professional Experience: 4 years of service at Pay Level 10 or 5 years at Pay Level 8.
- Desirable: Exposure to power system operations and regulatory appraisals.
6. Assistant Chief (Legal)
- Qualification: Degree in Law (preferably with higher specialization)
- Experience: 4 years in Level 10 OR 5 years in Level 8
- Desirable: Experience in legal/judicial processes related to electricity law.
7. Assistant Chief (Regulatory Affairs)
- Qualification: MBA in Finance / PG in Law, Engineering or Regulatory disciplines
- Experience: Same as Assistant Chief (Legal)
- Desirable: Understanding of electricity policy, regulatory processes, and sector reforms.
8. Bench Officer
- Qualification: Degree in Law
- Experience: Same as Assistant Chief (Legal)
- Desirable: Knowledge of judicial proceedings, legal drafting, petitions, and case law handling.
General Conditions
- The standard term of appointment, either on deputation or contractual basis, is three years.
- Candidates must apply through proper channel. Applications that are not forwarded through the parent department will be disqualified.
- Candidates selected and declining the offer will be debarred from future appointments in CERC for 2 years.
- Shortlisting will be based on eligibility and merit; only shortlisted candidates will be called for interaction.
