Sikkim University is inviting applications for the roles of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and Project Assistant as part of a pivotal initiative under the National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS). The project, titled “Assessment of Selected Endangered Lakes and Formulation of Evidence-based Rejuvenation Plans in the South and West Districts of Sikkim,” is spearheaded by Prof. Anil K. Misra (Principal Investigator) and Prof. Vikram Gupta (Co-Principal Investigator).

Vacancy Details

1. Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

  • Number of Posts: 01
  • Monthly Emoluments: ₹37,000 + 9% HRA
  • Project Duration: Till March 2028 (subject to extension based on performance)

2. Project Assistant

  • Number of Posts: 01
  • Monthly Emoluments: ₹20,000 + 9% HRA
  • Project Duration: Till March 2028 (extendable based on performance)

Eligibility Criteria

Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

  • Essential Qualification:
    • M.Sc./M.Tech in Geology, Applied Geology, Earth Science, or Hydrology
    • Qualified NET (JRF/LS) or GATE
    • Final semester students (awaiting results) may apply, but appointment is subject to passing the PG examination.
  • Desirable Qualification:
    • Experience in Hydrology, Geophysics, GIS, and Remote Sensing
    • Fieldwork experience in high-altitude regions

Project Assistant

  • Essential Qualification:
    • M.Sc./M.Tech in Geology, Applied Geology, Earth Science, or Hydrology
    • Final semester students may apply (appointment subject to passing PG exams).
  • Desirable Qualification:
    • Experience in Remote Sensing & GIS, Geophysical Investigations, and fieldwork
